Well the gun blogs have been ripe this morning with controversy over the requested purchase of 52K rounds of ammunition by the Bureau of Reclamation which manages the dam. People are in a frenzy now questioning whether these individuals even should be armed when dam security could be provided by multiple other agencies.
I find it mind boggling that the personnel who provide day to day operations and security for the dam would be questioned as needing firearms by gun enthusiasts. In a period of the more good guys with guns the better most outcomes are, why shouldn’t they be armed and trained rather than hoping the FBI and Homeland security will keep a strong enough presence there.
I also find it odd that the same bloggers spinning up conspiracy theories about why they need so much ammo, are the same that raise hell about lack of training for law enforcement officers every time an officer makes a mistake. I say why not have as much security as possible at the Hoover Dam, and why not purchase enough ammunition to properly equip the offices and train them. We all know the only effective way to perform firearms training is to send some rounds downrange!
